Cosmetic surgery

Filed under: Health Information — admin @ 3:25 pm

Cosmetic surgery
According to latest statistics, More than 12 million cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures were performed in the US alone last year and every year it is increased by one percent. Cosmetic surgery is a subspecialty of medicine and surgery that distinctively restricts itself to the improvement of appearance, irregularity and defects through surgical and non-surgical techniques. It is particularly concerned with preserving normal appearance or reinstates it, or enhancing it beyond the actual level toward some ideal level. Cosmetic surgery is a multi-disciplinary and comprehensive approach directed to all areas of the body. The top five surgical procedures were breast augmentation, nose reshaping liposuction eyelid surgery, and tummy tuck. Statistics shows that the top five nonsurgical cosmetic procedures among the people are botox injections, laser hair removal, hyaluronic acids, microdermabrasion, chemical peels. Middle-agers normally from 35 to 50 had the majority of procedures. The most common procedures for those 18 and under were Laser Hair Removal, Microdermabrasion, Rhinoplasty (Nosejob surgery) and Otoplasty (ear surgery) Why consider cosmetic surgery? Cosmetic surgery aims to change your appearance by changing parts of your body that have normal functions but looks make you unhappy. Reconstructive surgery is different which can reinstate look and function of body parts affected by hereditary defects, injuries and diseases Cosmetic surgery helps not only to look better, but also to feel better. Those who look for cosmetic surgery generally have an upbeat self-image, despite being oddly focused on one or more aspects of their appearance which others may or may not recognize. Postoperative benefits include personal well being due to positive self-image and improve family and social interactions. Although no studies have convincingly proved that most people can expect dramatic enhancement in their psychological well-being, however it is logical to believe that the patients perception about them changes normally if their appearance changes. Because the old adage may say ‘face is the index of mind’ but the reality is ‘mind is the index of the face’ 1. Don’t have unrealistic expectations that cosmetic surgery turns you star overnight. Anticipate improvement and avoid dreaming about perfection. Also don’t count on cosmetic surgery can save a drowning relationship or improve your social interactions. 2. Don’t try to have cosmetic surgery in the middle of a very upsetting life circumstances such as a divorce, job loss etc. better you can postpone because whatever may be the final outcome of the cosmetic surgery you will never satisfied. 3. The surgical and non-surgical procedures may vary and your recovery rate will be higher. Returning to work or taking care of other responsibilities may take from few days to more than a month. 4. Understand the possibility of risks involved in cosmetic surgery. You should be factual and you should know that it may be risky to your health and that the outcome may not like what you expect Possible risks: 1. Nausea, giddiness, pain Numbness and tingling sensation which may become permanent 2. An accumulation of fluid beneath the wound (seroma) and collection of blood in incision (hematoma) may happen and profuse bleeding in some patients has been reported 3. Skin breakdown is more common after cosmetic surgery caused by poor blood circulation and it happens particularly if you are a smoker 4. Infection at the site of surgery is another most common risk which may require more surgery and may leave even bigger scars. Asymmetrical or uneven appearance which may require additional surgery to correct 5. A drop in body temperature below what is required for normal metabolism (hypothermia) And the worst possible risk is dissatisfaction of the outcome of surgery. The outcome depends of lot of factors our expectations, surgeon’s skill, duration and type of surgery and our body’s healing mechanism. To avoid this have a chat with your surgeon to establish realistic, measurable and possible goals before surgery.

Canine vaccination information

Canine vaccination information
Dog has been considered to be man’s best friends for decades. From having dogs as pets to using them to hunt, history shows a record of dogs through the years. However, dogs, like other animals, and even humans, are susceptible to infections and diseases. Some of these diseases, like rabies, pose a risk even for humans. A lot of these diseases are viral which the dog may pick up from dog to dog contact (eye, nose and mouth secretions, faeces etc), or with other infective surfaces (parks, playgrounds, clinics etc). In such a situation the best option is vaccination. Similar to humans, vaccinations in dogs produces immunity in order to help fight diseases. However, very often pet-owners lack the correct canine vaccination information, and thus are either unable to get their dogs vaccinated, or do not know what are the necessary vaccinations to be given to the dogs and when. In knowing the correct canine vaccination information, pet owners should know that it is important to visit a veterinarian when planning vaccinations for their dog. This is necessary because there are several different breeds of dogs, and each needs to have a specific vaccination schedule. However, whatever the breed of dog may be, the vaccinations are generally common. Having access to information about canine vaccinations helps you prepare a checklist to ensure that your dog gets all the necessary shots. The first thing to know is that puppies should be vaccinated after they are 8 weeks old. This is because the antibodies it received from its mother are still active and will neutralize any vaccine given, making them redundant. Also there should be more than a 2 week time lag between vaccines or else it will work in suppressing the immune system instead of strengthening it. Some of the basic vaccines that should be given to puppies include the DHPP vacine. This includes vaccines for: Distemper (virus affecting the respiratory system and central nervous systems), Adenovirus – 2 (protects against hepatitis that affects the liver), Parainfluenza (which causes a persistant cough), Parvovirus (which causes vomiting, diarrhoea, and even death). Other vaccines involve those for Leptospirosis, Corona (which is very similar to parvovirus) and Bordatella (also known as kennel cough). The one vaccine that features in all canine vaccination information pamphlets is Rabies. This is one vaccine that is compulsory in all states in the US. Rabies virus attacks the neurological system. The first rabies shot is given by the time the puppy is 15 months old. 6 months is the oldest at which the first shot should be given. There differ rules about the duration and number of booster shots. Basic vaccinations for dogs are important for them and for humans around. There currently exists some controversy about the number of vaccines dogs get and the recommended number of booster shots.

Physical therapy water
Many have heard about physical water therapy from their neighbors, doctors, and experts because it is not a newly discovered treatment. Several people are familiar with this therapy and may have an idea of the reasons why it is good for the well-being of persons suffering from conditions concerning their limbs and joints. It poses benefits for individuals who would like to enhance their body’s function as well. Physical water therapy (also known as hydrotherapy or bath therapy) involves activities that take place in the water whether in a pool or the beach. Swimming for an hour, playing games in the water during a beach party with your family, or simply walking while the body is submerged in the water can already be physical water therapy. You can even do stretching under water for your upper and lower extremities. Patients who are recovering from bone injuries, with chronic fatigue syndrome, people with arthritis (particularly arthritis), and other illnesses that require movement for rehabilitation can do physical water therapy to improve their quality of life. The water’s buoyancy allows free and swift physical movement. Little effort is used to lift each limb underwater. That is why it is great for those who experience fatigue with minimal exertion. Physical water therapy, specifically swimming, is an exercise to improve cardiologic function. It is not only for the purpose of strengthening the limbs but it is also an activity for the heart. Adding to the benefits of physical water therapy is that it is one of the best asthmatic therapeutic modality. There are fewer impurities while exercising in the water. Furthermore, it improves the lung capacity of asthmatic individuals, improves expectoration of phlegm outside the bronchioles which accumulates easily and, most importantly, they can work at their own ability. Balance and coordination can be enhanced in physical water therapy. It even relaxes the joints and relieves stress in the individual. Performing exercises underwater can help you gain physical strength without the jeopardy of physical injury. In persons recovering from physical trauma, they feel their muscles and joints are sore and they were used to assistance from crutches or walkers. Physical water therapy allows them to manipulate the affected limb at their tolerance and they are even assisted with the water’s force in lifting their extremity against gravity. The list of the benefits of physical water therapy can go on and on. It is no doubt one of the preferred therapeutic regimens for individuals that require physical enhancement and recovery from illnesses. With the guidance of doctors or physical therapists, physical progress can be reached at its maximum.

Travel vaccination information

Filed under: Health Information — admin @ 10:15 pm

Travel vaccination information
The fastest growing industry in the world today is tourism. People are travelling to different countries and visiting exotic places. With travelling to new places travellers are also exposed to new food, new climates and new people. When travelling, there is a change in the environment. The travellers have to deal with drastically different temperatures – extreme cold, heat or humidity. This brings on the additional possibility of infections that are associated with these varied temperatures. Also, there are several parts of the world where diseases are still prevalent even though they may not be as active in the US. This along with the fact that healthcare services are not as advanced or prompt as in the US make it important for the traveller to be aware of and make arrangements for ensuring good health on a trip out of the country. The best way to do that is to have the appropriate travel vaccination information. Travel vaccination information can be got from the local health care centre or general practitioner. Even the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the CDC have guidelines that provide travel vaccination information. When travelling, you can never be sure of the quality of water and food that are going to be available. If travelling to tropical countries, the heat accompanied by various insects increases the risk of infection. Thus having travel vaccination information helps in preparing yourself for these eventualities. The first thing to check in getting travel vaccination information is whether the country that you are visiting has any vaccination requirements that need to be met. Many countries need an International Certificate of Vaccination before you enter. For example, many countries require travellers who have visited Africa or the Americas to have a yellow fever vaccination certificate to prove they are medically fit. Also countries like Saudi Arabia require all Hajj pilgrims to have a proof of vaccination against meningococcal meningitis ACW135Y. Travel vaccination information suggests that any vaccinations that need to be taken should be done 4-6 weeks before the travel date since the vaccine takes time to take effective. Also, as part of travel vaccination information, the CDC suggests that the traveller be updated in all the routine vaccinations that are done including tetanus, polio and hepatitis A/B boosters. There are recommended vaccinations that include typhoid vaccinations, Japanese encephalitis etc which will depend on the country you are visiting. Required vaccinations refer to vaccinations that countries expect you to have like the yellow fever vaccination. When travelling with children, travel vaccination information involves ensuring that the children have had all their booster shots as well as core vaccinations required for their age. Travelling is the most popular form of holidaying. Knowing the important travel vaccination information is one way of ensuring that a fun holiday does not end at the hospital.
